100 women,100 stories

100 Women 100 Stories is an uplifting choral celebration of women's stories. Sung by 100 local women, it was written by 6 female Australian composers and inspired by interviews with 100 women from across the country.

During the 2020 lockdowns, The House That Dan Built spoke to 100 women from around Australia. They shared stories of resilience, connection to community, and reflections on their lives.

The recorded interviews were given to six award-winning Australian female composers who wove those stories into a one-hour moving and poignant choral experience.

100 Women, 100 Stories has been performed in Sydney, Deniliquin, Kingston, and Wonthaggi. The work is always accompanied by story-gathering and community engagement projects, extending its reach and impact.

TENDER YOUNG CREATURES

TENDER YOUNG CREATURES follows a girl’s journey as she leaves home full of optimism and curiosity, and lands in treacherous territory.

A chorus of 100 girls aged 12-18 lead the audience through a nocturnal landscape. Moving through harmonies, melodies, monologues, and chants, the 100 voices create a forest filled with the threat of the Wolf.

Told through immersive sound installation and choral song, Tender Young Creatures uses handheld lighting and projection to create a world that the audience moves through. Pretty vocals at the beginning give way to war cries and pounding percussion as the fear is faced, explored and confronted.

Built around the lived experience of the original cast and creatives, this immersive work gives the audience the experience of being a girl alone at night.

the house that dan built

The House that Dan Built (The House) supports girls and women to find their voice - to be heard, to connect, to share joy. Our program of activities is a strategic investment toward realising two specific complementary goals:

Generate vocal performances suitable for programming by venues, festivals and events synonymous with artistic excellence;

and

Unearth and propel the careers of the next generation of female composers, songwriters and performers locally, regionally, nationally.

The House is forging a national reputation for its groundbreaking investment in the voices of girls and women. The company specialises in connecting leading female composers, singers and creative explorers with everyday Australians to celebrate female stories and unlock potential across NSW.The House exists to provide opportunities to people who, due to their experience of gender, have faced exclusion or alienation from artistic spaces. This applies of course to trans and non binary people who feel connected to woman/girlhood and/or feel safe and represented in women’s spaces.
