CReate NSW REGIONAL TOURING

REGIONAL WORK

REGIONAL SONGWRITING

WORKSHOPS

The AKIN Program creates opportunities for arts participation in under-serviced rural communities, for girls aged 8-18. These workshops utilise music skills (singing, instrumentation, songwriting) to develop life-skills in a joyous environment. Benefits include achieving mastery through practice, focus, determination, & confidence in one’s own voice. Writing music gives participants ownership over their voice & story. AKIN validates girls' experiences & creates incentives to develop skills, persevere with difficulty, & foster creativity. We create opportunities for every girl who wants to participate, running workshops over several days in schools, community groups, and arts groups. AKIN has run for 7 years, travelling across Regional NSW.

THE HOUSE MUSIC & ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA was a free five-day residential camp in Berrigan that ran in 2023.

Participants chose from a wide range of workshops, such as music, singing, songwriting, acting, design, costume, animation, puppetry, videography, gaming or performance making. Together the team created, rehearsed and performed a showcase of their work to friends, family and the local community at the historic North Tuppal Woolshed.

toy choir

Toy Choir is an introduction-to-music program dedicated to excellence in choral ensemble work and the development of young artists in singing, songwriting and performance. Toy Choir regularly tours to regional towns, offering high quality music education to girls in regional towns and cities.

Toy Choir is bursting with happiness, hearing the sweet and joyous harmonies of young girls voices with infectious and rhythmic ukulele strumming. Girls aged 9–16 learn to develop their voices and build confidence to take space and have their stories heard. Key to the program’s success is spreading joy and peer–to–peer learning. As soon as students are capable they become teachers, creating a cycle-of-learning: learn–do–teach–master.

WHISPERS & ROARS 2022

Festival of new works

Whispers & Roars first took place in Sydney in 2022, drawing together young and emerging female artists. 16 participants were mentored by The House artists to create music and theatre works to be performed in the prestigious Pier 2/3 of the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct. Artists were paid a fee for their creative work, and now have a refined artistic work with a performance history.

THE HOUSE THAT DAN BUILT

The House that Dan Built (The House) supports girls and women to find their voice - to be heard, to connect, to share joy.  Our program of activities is a strategic investment toward realising two specific complementary goals:

  1. Generate vocal performances suitable for programming by venues, festivals and events synonymous with artistic excellence; and

  2. Unearth and propel the careers of the next generation of female composers, songwriters and performers locally, regionally, nationally.

The House is forging a national reputation for its groundbreaking investment in the voices of girls and women. The company specialises in connecting leading female composers, singers and creative explorers with everyday Australians to celebrate female stories and unlock potential across NSW.

The House exists to provide opportunities to people who, due to their experience of gender, have faced exclusion or alienation from artistic spaces. This applies of course to trans and non binary people who feel connected to woman/girlhood and/or feel safe and represented in women’s spaces.
